From May 28 to June 28 in the National History museum of Latvia at Brīvības Boulevard 32, Riga, an exhibition of paintings by Mexican artist Leopoldo Flores (1934) will be held. He has studied in Mexico and France; today he is one of the most famous Mexican painters, the winner of several international awards. He is mainly known for his frescoes, wall paintings and other monumental works. The most famous artist’s work is stained glass called “Cosmovitral”, located in Toluca. In his works Flores represents the negative side of human nature, depicting the social problems, aggression and passion that condemn people. He also criticizes the system of power and political regimes.
In the beginning of the 21st century the artist gave a part of his works to the Mexican National Autonomous University, where in 2002 opened a museum dedicated to him. Leopoldo Flores himself took part in the creation of the museum.
Leopoldo Flores is still actively working. Paintings that were created in various stages of the artist’s life will be displayed in Riga.
The exhibition is organized in collaboration with the Embassy of Mexico in Sweden and Honorary Consul of Mexico in Latvia Carlos Arredondo Martinez.
