Until 17 March the exhibition of paintings by artist Ruta Appena “Reflections on War and Peace” is on display at the Dauderi Department (Zāģeru Street 7). The works of the exhibition were created in the last few years, when the covid pandemic was followed by Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, then the Hamas terrorist attack on Israel. These events have influenced both the artist herself and the choice of images and themes reflected in her paintings. With today’s eyes, forebodings of the fragility of peace and beauty can also be felt in some works of an earlier period, for example, in the painting “Odesa in the Evening”.
