On 6 February, 2020 the museum marks the 100th anniversary since the present National History Museum of Latvia began to work in the Riga Castle. After the devastating fire of 2013, the museum has temporarily left the castle, but hopes to begin the next century with a return to its historic home as soon as possible.
Currently, the State Real Estate has announced a construction procurement for the reconstruction and restoration of the Riga Castle convent, to be handed over to the museum in 2024. However, funding for the museum’s exposition, as well as further reconstruction of the castle after 2024, have not yet been determined.
